The terms "Daka" and "Dakini" roughly translate to "Sky Dancer" and refer to male and female sexual healers, respectively.

The majority of trained Dakas and Dakinis apply their skills among friends and lovers, although some make it their profession. Due to vaguaries in local laws professional Dakas and Dakinis may be lumped together with prostitutes, even though the intent and activities are usually quite different. To complicate matters, the general public will often lump them together and as a result genuine seekers can be misdirected to prostitutes and "Johns" can bring a mistaken set of assumptions to a meeting with a Daka or Dakini.
